In North Carolina, Charlotte officers shot, causing the death of three US Marshals and one officer from Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD). Additionally, four were injured. This incident happened on April 29th 2024 when an arrest warrant was being served by a task force led by the US Marshals Service for someone accused of possessing a firearm as a convicted felon.

Charlotte officers shot incident happened in the 5000 Block of Galway Drive, in the area known as North Tryon Division. This is where the team of officers had come together to carry out their search warrant. When they got near the house, they were quickly hit with gunfire from the man who was carrying an AR-15 kind of rifle and a .40 caliber handgun. The officers shot back, hitting the bad person many times, but he still fired from inside the house.

The fight went on for more than two hours, and you could hear the sounds of gunfire in the neighborhood. Later, police came to the house, using strong and protected cars to break into the place. They broke windows and doors. Two women inside the house, including a 17-year-old, were taken into custody for questioning.

The suspect’s age is 39 and his name is Terry Clark Hughes Jr. He was discovered dead in the front yard of this residence, which suggests that it might have been a scene of crime where more than one person attacked him. The authorities are still examining the situation.

Charlotte officers shot have been named as Thomas Weeks Jr., a 48-year-old deputy U.S. marshal, and two officers from North Carolina Department of Adult Correction – Sam Poloche and Alden Elliott. Both have served for 14 years with this department. Joshua Eyer is the CMPD officer who died; he had been working there for 6 years.

Along with the fatalities, four more officers got hurt in the shooting. Among them were Christopher Tolley, Michael Giglio and Jack Blowers who got shot and treated at hospital. Another officer Justin Campbell broke his foot during this event and he also received medical attention before being released.

Investigations into the Charlotte officers shot event are happening from two sides, one by our Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) and another from US Marshals Service. The Homicide Unit of CMPD is in charge of leading the investigation, whereas the US Marshals Service has started its own internal review.
